The simple way to be the person that you want to be |

Dear Nigel,
Aren't we awful, always complaining, never
satisfied.
Always wanting to be something or someone different
from whom we are.
All the time we secretly wish that we could
like to be someone else.
The simple truth is that so long as we go on
doing the same things we will continue to be the
same person.
We are that person because we do those things.
The only way that life will change is if we do
something different.
So here is a simple tool for change. A simple way
to
be the person that you want to be.
By the way in order for this to work, you must
want to change.
When I say change, I mean that you want to be
something/someone different;
OR
you want to be more or to do more.
So here we go:
|
|
|
What do you want to be?
Write it down clearly and simply.
Maybe something like:
“I am a self-confident person”.
“I am a good manager of my finances”.
“I can handle anything life throws at me (no
fear)”.
“I am a great lover”.
Do you have the idea?
Start with “I”;
then, use the present tense;
then, say what you want.
What do you do?
Now to become the person you want, you have to
ask yourself what would that person do in this
situation
"What would the person that I want to be do in this
situation?"
And that is what you do. That is how you behave.
You start to behave like the person that you
want to
be.
You want to be self-confident: How does that person
behave when he goes to the bank:
- he knows what he wants;
- he knows what he will say;
- he will not accept a “no” – but only a “how
to ..”;
- he will be positive;
- and so on.
You know how the person you want to be would act:
trust your intuition.
It may feel a little awkward at first, but persist. You
did not become a
bicycle-rider by getting on and going the first time,
did you? It takes a few tries.

Practice and practice. Use safe environments to
experiment fully with the persona you are becoming –
places where you are not in the middle of old friends,
work colleagues and family (who may like you as you
were and may have little interest that you
change!!)!
Go for it - BECOME IT.
Don’t do the things that the person, you do
not want to be, would do. That is conscious
madness!!!
You must start doing the things that the person
you want to be would do.
Nigel coaches people like you to freedom – freedom
from limitations, freedom to do/be more, financial
freedom, emotional freedom, freedom to be
yourself.
