"It is not impossible!" and the Holy Grail

"It is not impossible!" and the Holy Grail May 2006

  Dear Nigel,

"It is not impossible!"

One day driving along in the car my three-year old started repeating this phrase over and over again. Where she got it from I have no idea!

Is this how young children create some of their beliefs for their life: They hear something, and then go on repeating it until it is firmly printed on the "hard disk".

How often do you say to yourself, "It is not impossible"?
You might look to see if you catch yourself saying the opposite!

When I am out and about in the corporate world, doing my coaching and consultancy, I often hear "they" are asking so much, "they" are asking the impossible.

Well, here is a new perspective: when someone suggests (or tells you) to produce results beyond what you are doing now, and what you believe is impossible:
- take a deep breath;
- fully experience (and express in a private place), "that is utterly impossible"; and then
- ask yourself, "what are the factors, one by one, that stop us getting the desired results now?"

Make a list of the issues - note the people involved - look at the processes (and beliefs) that create the blockages.
Concepts like: zero stock; lean manufacturing; producing automobiles singly to order; and Enlightenment were created from wanting to go beyond the “known” and beyond the established patterns.

INSTANT COFFEE

Everyone wants instant coffee. Everyone wants a quick easy solution of all life's problems.

Often on a personal level, also corporate (corporate = the sum of the individuals), the undesired situation is a result of:
- not saying "No" at the right time, and then continuing the compromise; or,
- trying to keep the same life model, and just making the minimum changes when forced to (basically resisting change).

Instant coffee is the solution to the problem, of course! Everything will become "alright". Everyone wants this secret recipe to make it all go alright. But instant coffee is just another name for the Holy Grail!

If instant coffee did resolve all the problems of your world, would you take it, or would you start negotiations for all the things you do not want to change?

Let me tell you a little story (it will also explain why there has been a gap in these Updates). Over the May 1 holiday I was in Croatia running a personal development course for nine days. The course is a real life-changer and gives you tools to model the life you want and to handle all your stuff. You could say it is a belief management system.

One of the students told me last night she had clear ideas about the life she wants to create, however, there is the feeling that the old habits are pulling her back, like someone pulling her tail!

Habits do run deep, and firm decisions are needed to make and to maintain change; and most of all persistence is needed until the “New You” is on automatic.

Many people decide after living about thirty/forty years with the programme "It is impossible" that they want to try something new!
Such a shift takes courage and fortitude: and you will have to leave the old habits behind you, just like giving up smoking. And do not forget to let go of the tail!

You can create the future you desire, and IT IS NOT IMPOSSIBLE.
