I leap out of bed in the morning ....... January 2006

  Dear Nigel,

One day late. I am sorry if you were expecting this update yesterday. I do make every effort to be regular in publishing it, but I did not make it this week.

One of the words which seems to have fallen out of fashion is Discipline.

Discipline implies hard work, sacrifice and doing something that you do not want to do. It has become an ugly word. So let's not talk about it.

Can getting up at 5.00 in the morning, and going to bed at 9.00 in the evening be considered as a good life?

You might be surprised how many successful people live such a life. Because it works for them. With that kind of rhythm they find they perform as they want to. It is not a hardship: it is a choice.

They did not decide to get up and go to bed at those hours, and then build their lives around that pattern.

They started on their mission. And they found that in order to do what they wanted that was the sleeping routine that suited them best.

The important thing about D'scipline (written like a real pro-eWriter) is that you want to learn more, and do more. D'scipline is "a training to produce a specific character or pattern of behavior".

You will do the training - if you want to change

If you want to change - to be Something - you will do the training. You will do what it takes. Amateur sportspeople will often go through amazing rigorous training programmes because they want to excel at their sport, this d'scipline is created by wanting to achieve. The key is knowing what you want, and doing what you want.

So often we have good intentions, but the results are not so great (how are you doing with your New Year Resolutions?).

Why do you not succeed?
Because you have conflicting priorities, or conflicting beliefs, or conflicting needs, or you think you are doing the right thing to do but your heart is not in it.

Before you decide to do anything in your life, and commit to yourself, ask yourself first - how important is it to me that I succeed in this project - on a scale of 1 to 10. If the answer is less than 8.5, then think again and fine-tune until you get to a 9.5. Maybe you need to talk your plan through with the family and get them aligned with you. Maybe you need reorganize another part of your life. Maybe you will have to put something on hold while you do your new project.

The essence of building d'scipline into your life is to start with the most important thing in your life and how to realize that and build the pieces around that. What is most important in your life can change over time, it does not have to be a life mission - although that may come out.

If you want to learn and to grow, and you stay focused on your target – you will become d'sciplined and get up at 5.00 in the morning because you want to!

Nigel coaches people like you to freedom – freedom from limitations, freedom to do/be more, financial freedom, emotional freedom, freedom to be yourself.
